We offer a fully accredited three-year Diploma in Digital Animation that equips you with all the creative, technical, and professional skills you need to succeed as an animator.

We also offer short courses in stop-motion, 2D and 3D animation, and motion graphics, suitable for both beginners in animation and seasoned professionals looking to sharpen their skills and learn new techniques.

We have campuses in Cape Town and Johannesburg; you can also study online.

Entry requirements for the Diploma in Digital Animation are as follows: 

1. Portfolio of Artwork
You are required to present a portfolio of artwork for assessment. 

 

2. Computer Literacy 
You should be able to use a personal computer confidently and be familiar with Windows or Mac operating systems.

 

3. Minimum Qualifications 
You should have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with admission to a Diploma or Bachelor's Degree or a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4. You must have achieved at least 50% in three fundamental subjects, including English, and at least 60% in the three compulsory vocational subjects. 

 

If you are an international student with foreign qualifications, you must apply to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to have your qualifications evaluated. For more information about applying as an international student, click here.

Applications close on 31 October 2025.

For our diploma, our 2026 tuition fees for South African and other African students range between R123,900 and R135,000 (subject to your payment schedule).

 

Tuition for international students costs R157,300, with the full amount due on registration.

 

The tuition fees for the online diploma are the same as the on-campus programme, as both offer the same high-quality qualification, academic support, and access to expert lecturers.

 

Tuition fees include free access to Autodesk Maya, Adobe Suite, and Toonboom Harmony, but exclude any compulsory books, other software, digital drawing equipment and/or removable hard drives required to complete day-to-day responsibilities. All students should budget an additional R3,000 per year for these expenses.

 

Short courses cost R3,900.

Graduates of the diploma are qualified to work not just in animation but in a wide range of professions. Examples of industries and roles where animation skills are in high demand include:

 

Film, TV, and Gaming: Character design, storyboarding, visual effects (VFX), and motion graphics


Advertising and Marketing: Animated ads, explainer videos, and branded content


Architecture and Engineering: Virtual tours, 3D visualisations, and process simulations


Medical and Health Sciences: Animated procedures, simulations, and training tools


Forensics and Law Enforcement: Crime scene reconstructions and visual evidence presentation

Unfortunately, we currently don’t welcome walk-ins, but we do encourage you to attend our Open Day event, where you will have an opportunity to tour our facilities.
